Thank goodness I never learned to type…

Today I was chatting with two other southern boys (David Hill and Josh Emig) when the topic of regional colloquialisms came up. This in turn caused me to think of my father and all of the great advice and wisdom he has given me throughout the years. Some of the best has to be when I was in thenth grade and signed up for a typing class (now rumored to be called “keyboarding”). He told me, “Boy” (his best advice always starts with “Boy”), “Boy,” he said, “You don’t want to take that class – you never want a job where you will have to type. You want a job where you have people to type things for you.” Needless to say, I took that advice, and here I sit staring at the keyboard as I peck away with a total of four-and-half fingers. With true multi-touch computing on the horizon (quite possibly tomorrow?) maybe his advice was good after all, if only 30 years later. regardless of what apple’s “big announcement” may bring tomorrow, here is an interesting (albeit longish) take on what multi-touch may look like in the not-too-distant future. Not sure they get it all right. But at least it will give me a chance to start over. Or not. I mean, I really don’t want to learn how to multi-touch either – surely all my people can do that for me as well?
